Curriculum Vitae

Helen Taylor Greene is a Professor in the Administration of Justice program at Texas Southern University in the Barbara Jordan- Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in Criminology. Her Dissertation explored police systems and was titled: The Effects of Police Systems and Their Environments on Police Homicides: An Exploratory Analysis.

Greene also served as a Graduate Legislative Fellow of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. for the United States House of Representatives in 1983. She was assigned to the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control, chaired by Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY).

Dr. Taylor Greene regularly presents papers at the annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Dr. Taylor Greene is a race and crime scholar
who has authored, co-authored, and edited peer-reviewed articles and books. Most recently she served as lead editor for the Encyclopedia of Race and Crime (2009, Sage Publications, Inc.) and with Dr. Shaun L. Gabbidon co-authored the 3rd edition of Race and Crime (2013, Sage Publications, Inc.). In 2010, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division on People of Color and Crime.

She currently serves as the Lead Evaluator for the Teen and Police Service (T.A.P.S.) Academy, a program funded by the Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services office in partnership with the City of Houston Police Department, the University of Houston Clearlake, Texas Southern University and others.

Greene received her B.S. degree (1972) in Sociology from Howard University, her M.S. degree (1976) in Administration of Justice from American University and a M.A. (1978) in Political Science and Ph.D. (1988) in Criminology from the University of Maryland.
